Perfect Patent

The newish Kate Spade patent handbags are out in a variety of juicy colors that have been tempting me for weeks now. I love the bright yellow, and punchy salmon, but decided to go with the more versatile Doe colored Harrison Street Wren.

It will be the perfect addition to add to my insanely growing bag collection. Hey, some people collect stamps, some people collect creepy figurines - aren't gorgeous sqooshy purses a zillion times better than either of those?

Up next, think I might need to add something in they beautiful sunshine colorway - I'm leaning towards this or this

Sorry for the mega-long absence. I would be surprised if anyone is even still checking my blog. Work, life, travel just got the best of me. Oh and I was hit with a major grody cold bug, so that's had me a little tied up for the past 2 weeks too.

Anyhoody, enough of my excuses: I'm back, and here to share a dress I had to have. Had to. Lilly P. is a pro at making lovely, feminine silhouettes, and I'm a major sucker for the bright sunshine-y yellow. Oh, and kinda a little OCD when it comes to stripes :)

I haven't seen it in real person, so I'm crossing my fingers it works for either a fun night out with the hubs and friends, or can even potentially be dressed down with a casual cardi. I don't have any summer weddings on my calendar this year (first year in a long time!), so I don't need a formal/fancy dress. So please please please, let this gorgeous bright and happy dress be versatile enough for me to justify keeping it.

Not sure what today's blog title has to do with the post, but I enjoy it. So there it is :) Now on to clothes and shopping and other uber-serious mega-critical topics I wrestle with day in, day out....

I personally wasn't a fan of the Anthropologie Tracy Reese Dreamy Wanderings dress - the cut and fit was too fluffy and flowy. Just didn't speak to me. I also knew I'd look like a giant cream puff in it, so perhaps that created a teeny bit of bias :)

However, I'm stuck perusing the interwebs this evening while the hubs bogarts the TV watching college hockey (bow-ring), and I saw the Dreamy Wanderings Dress as a top on the Tracy Reese site, and I have to say, I'm intrigued. Perhaps it's the embellishment (read sparkles!!) along the neckline, but I also think the flowy top would look lovely paired with some structured jeans and black patent flats or heels. And, it's on sale! I think it's a pass for me now, but I'm bookmarked in case it goes to a second cut - then I think I'd have to buckle and order.

Seeing Red...

Lately I've realized how much my closet skews towards certain colors (read: tons and tons of blue), and while blue will always remain my go-to fave (all shades, of course), I've been itching to expand my options and wardrobe. I've noticed a few of my fave and oh-so-fashionable friends and fellow bloggers wearing a lot of red.

Yes.

RED.

And I've got lots of pinky/purply/fuchsia's in my closet, but for whatever reason I've obviously gravitated AWAY from red over the past few years, because I have literally not a stitch of true red clothing in my closet.... save for a couple of U. of Wisco sweatshirts, which obviously I can't pair with a lovely new tea-cup printed Anthro dress I finally just got my grubby little hands on.

So I popped on over to the Crew to see what they had. And I almost clicked buy on a Cerise Jackie.

Almost, but didn't.

I love my other Jackie's: they are the reliable 'work-horses' of my giant cardi collection. But I was looking for something specific, and while the color looked vibrant and pretty, I wasn't sure it was truly red... I mean I love the romance ~slash~ quirkiness of the J Crew color names. But they also chap my ass because half of 'em I can't even pronounce much less define.

Plussss, beyond the world of crazy-Crew-colors, I'm also kind of annoyed these days with some recent JC quality issues. Yup. Material is kinda... cheapy, resulting in cardi's getting stretched out of shape in just one wear (holy drycleaner's bill, that's not going to work)! I've also had a couple of seams splitting, and no, NOT because I'm sausaging myself into a size that isn't mine. I know I'm not alone here - I've seen a lot of complaints across the bloggy-world... so I wont go any further on it.

Which then brings to me today's find - this gorgeous Ann Taylor RED V-neck Cardigan (yay! I prefer V's because they don't squish my many ruffly tops!). Double/Triple yay in that it's on special price (not sale, for some reason AT is marking it as a 'special price'... WTF?), and I scored an extra 20% of my purchase (10000000110 - thanks Chloe!) and 3% cashback with ebates - fist pump!

A few others are pretties I've seen and been dreaming about. I love both pairs of shoes, but can't find the flats in my size, and the heels, well I'm just trying to show some restraint :)

PS... Thanks to the lovely blogger Goldenmean's OOTD today, I went immediately and bought the Eiffel print dress from Modcloth. Oy, for being a e-retailer, and one with an amazing offering of gorgeous items updated daily, why can't shipping prices and times be a little better? They have so many pieces I adore and then buckle and buy, but never once have I seen a coupon code. Boo.

The (Chicago) weather was frightful, work was so NOT delightful. I deserved a treat.

I worked my tail off, and honestly, I was productive and responsible. So who got a treat? This girl!!

This Black Druzy ring made by Andara a little outside of my typical style, but I've realized (a little sadly) that I have kind of a schizophrenic style when it comes to clothes/accessories - I like classic, vintage, but also am drawn to trendy (ah militray-chic I love you!) and in rare cases even a little quirky. Druzy stones are so sprakly and I tried to keep this wearable by going with a black druzy!

PS - I just discovered Max and Chloe a few months ago, and while I've only bought this and one other necklace, I'm really digging it. And with ebates, I scored 2.5% cash-back. Like!

I found and plucked this sweet vintage enamel Pin off Etsy last weekend and can't wait for it to arrive.

IMO it's perfect combo of classy-yet-quirky. And of course, Emma P. wore a similar Red Poinsettia Brooch on a recent episode (image courtesy of lovely blogger WWEPW).

I actually saw a red poinsettia brooch at a vintage store around the corner from my house, but was pleased when I stumbled across the white version since it'll fit into my wardrobe with a little more ease.

I can't wait to wear it over the upcoming holidays!

I saw the adorable Fuchsia Rhododendron Flower Heels made by Miss L Fire (an Anthro brand I adore for her quirky but classy vintage designs!) on Modcloth, and just had to have them. Nevermind I'll be wearing nothing other than snowboots outside of the office in the near future (dear Chicago, your weather kills me!), but nevertheless, the image of me wearing these with black skinnies and a ruffly black top to NYE was enough to make me click purchase. The heel is short and thus super comfy, and the shoe fits TTS in my opinion. I'm quite pleased with these, and would love to get my greedy little hands on the black version, but appears I can only buy them from a boutique in the UK (uhm, yeeps on the shipping!!). So Modcloth, please release the black version? Stat. Grazie.

Anthro Doppleganger: Gary Pepper

Saw this and had to share.

Modcloth cracks me up with their item names. Meet the Gary Pepper Dress.

The Gary Peper is a dead ringer for the beautiful but sold out Anthropologie Discovered Lace Dress. The only differences I see are maybe a slightly more rosey-ish gray and the overall length. Both versions are delightfully neutral, however the Anthro version was 36" whereas the MC version is 2-4 inches shorter. For me, that's potentially a deal-breaker, but I'm very anti-higher hem-lines! If you missed out on the Anthro beauty, might be worth a look for the price, given it's under 50 bucks. Perhaps pair it with a cute slip to add an inch or two to the hemline?

I loved loved loved the absolutely adorable Dusky Begonia T-Strap pumps as soon as I spyed them on the Anthro site several months ago. I'd be panting over finding the perfect blue pump to add to my collection, and while I adored these t-straps, felt they were a little too funky given the color AND the rosette (I mean funky and awesome, but not sleek-yet-versatile blue pump I've been dreaming about).

So the T-straps have sat in my cart for months.

Then yesterday, I decided to take a peek at Modcloth.com after reading a post from one of my fave fashion bloggers and seeing an adorable coat she'd mentioned from them. Well, the Haworth coat, erm which is really a cape (I know, I have a problem!), is fabulous, just wish there were a few more reviews to better understand the weight of the coat... erm, cape. That being said, let's face it, the price is great, love the gray neurtal color-way and it looks so darned snuggly... so I need to at least order it and try it. But before I did, I took a quick peruse of the show section... never really looked at the mMdcloth shoes before as I assumed they were dupes, too, not the real brand name shoes that you find (and buy) at other stores. And alas, look at what I came across! Meet the Dusky Begonia's in Light Gorgeous Gold, AKA the Chicka Chicka Noir Bloom Heel. The same Miss L Fire shoe, in a Gold colorway with a delicious red and black florette.

Ah! There were only 3 left in my size, shipping was free, AND they were even less than the original blue version offered by Anthro. So I bit. Or I bought. Or both. Now, I just hope MC ships these puppies out fast and that I'm able to rock them with my black skinnies and a new black lace top I picked up with intentions to wear to our team holiday party.

Eeek. Love when the stars-align like this!

Eye Candy: Boots Galore!

Gilt Groupe is having an exciting Faryl Robin shoe sale today. I have been holding these booties in my cart all morning, not sure it's the right time to buy yet another pair of shoes, what with Xmas coming up, but they are so adorable. And minty!

I recently picked up some cute military-chic boots off ebay to wear with skirts/skinny jeans... I heart ebay and how I can find fab deals on Anthro/JC items I may have missed out on.

What do you think? Would they be too much with my new Anthro D'Armee Dress? I'd soften the outfit up with some sparkly jewelry.

Some new Anthropologie roll-outs came online last night, and I fell immediately in love with a skirt I had to buy right then and there. The Soft Sakura Skirt is definitely priced higher than I'd like, but I have a feeling this skirt will go the way of the Fulmar sweater skirt of last year, and wouldn't make it to my greedy greedy little hands, much less sale if I held off and waited. Who knows, I could be wrong, but I love the print and sweater skirts are amazingly comfortable and easy to pull off.

And that coral pink lining? Drool.

So I bit the bullet and ordered it. Full-price, no reviews. Eek, and i can't wait for it to arrive!

I *might* have also threw in the D'armee Dress and this gorgeous green glass bead necklace I think will look smashing with it! Hey, I had my reasons: it got me free shipping, I was sold when I saw the awesome OOTDx5 stylings post from the fabulous blogger Wardrobe Review, AND the splurge quenched my need for something military-esque.

UPDATE: Cape update - it arrived and I *love* it. I'm typically I size 10 in tops, went with the M/L and it's plenty roomy so if you're smaller, consider sizing down to the S/M. I love the detailing on the shoulders, and the material seems study and soft :) Thumbs up from me!

I'm on a crusade to end crappy meetings. Crappy meetings which wouldn't have happened if you'd been given all the info available prior to said meeting taking place.

LOFT (or ATL as I still fondly call it) is a fab place when a girl is in need of some plain and simple retail therapy. The clothes are cute, decently made, on-trend, but wont break the bank. so when you have a tough day and need a little pick-me-up but your nails are already done and you've already maxxed yourself on vanilla lattes, stroll on over (or log on) to Loft.

Whats a girl to do??

I must have some blue shoes. Must. And not suede (so not Chicago-weather friendly!). I want blue patent shoes with a small but adorable heel. A bright blue heel has been on my 'wishlist' for eons, and these have been on my mind for months, but if I haven't pulled the trigger yet, doesn't that means something? Its not like I haven't placed about a half-dozen Anthro orders in the past couple of months.

And if only these sensible heels would have a baby with this amazing electric blue 4 inch heel... then I'd be getting that match made-in-my-heaven.

On the other hand, isn't it possible I need to wait for the peeerfect blue pump, and instead fill my black-bootie void?

I totally heart these boots but wish I could see them in real life before splurging. Do they look a little orthopedic? Oh Chie Mihara, why do you have to be so pricey?

Happy Thursday all. This has been one of the longest short-weeks I've had in a while. Busy bee at work, and been staying on track with my very new workout goals (nothing I should brag about, but does require a 5am alarm)...

It was also a great week because my new Anthro items arrived. As suspected I puffy heart love the Dwarf Quince cardi, and even got several compliments the day I wore it (which, was the day after I received it, so should say something about how gorge it is!!).

My sale items are lovely little steals, so excited I snagged those.

Which leaves me with my dilemma I need your help with...

I loved the Frontrunner Blazer the day I saw it pop up on the website. Because I've been a little iffy of late in my sizing and how I've been wanting clothes to fit (read: I'm getting older and I realize form-fitting is definitely not alwasy appropriate), so I went to try it on, but it wasn't in-store when I finally made my way over to local Anthro. Boo. So I ordered it. Full price AND shipping. And it arrived and its adorable. I love the gross-grain ribbon bow embellishment, and the burlap-with-gold-speckled fabric you'd only find at Anthro. Fit is nice and comfy -- nothing crazy like super long or tight arms, BUT, I'm on the fence about whether I should go one more size down. Right now, it fits like a charm buttoned. And I think the blazer looks super cute buttoned. But if I wanted to wear it open, it definitely looks a little overwhelming on me. Just drapey in a not good way.

The product shot is of the blazer buttoned, but will that be comfortable for an all-day outfit? I sit at a desk for most of the day, and wonder if I wouldn't rather it open, and then I probably ought to size down. These are my trials and tribulations.

'Tis the Season

I don't know where 2010 has gone. I'm super bummed that I feel like I worked/stressed/hurried myself through summer. But before I get too down about time passing and me growing older (and colder with the upcoming Chicago weather about a day and half away I'm sure!), I do have a couple of things to keep me smiling. Ladies (and gent/husband), it's time for.... Friends & Family discounts! Woot woot! I am a sucker for the F&F sales every year, but since they're so perfectly tied to the holiday season, I at least use them to buy things for people other than just greedy little me.

I received my first F&F email notification/invite and thought I'd spread the joy:

Oh, how I love Kate Spade. I mean, literally, I love love love her. Her style at least. She mixes feminine and quirky in a perfectly harmonious way. I'm not huge into the handbags, but her clothes have ,r drooling. But with amazing style, comes the price tag. I mean this coat is to die for. But the price? Husband would kill me. And I'd kill my adorable little dog if she ever got hair on it or snagged it while jumping on me (she's cute -- and I'm not just saying that because she's mine, I swear -- but she is a giant FAIL in the manners department. Or wait, does that make me the fail?).

Anyhow, so the Studio Mona Coat is never going to make it's way to me greedy, itchy little hands, but check out the typewriter bag. I definitely don't have one of those, so Husband can't say I'm being a spendaholic.

And I still want one of those book clutches. Since I still want something months after posting about it, does that mean it's worth the splurge?

My latest acquisitions: pretty as a picture

My Anthro items landed on my front stoop today, so I'll be trying the new goodies on and posting reviews asap. In the meantime, wanted to share two new non-Anthro and non-shoe (gasp!!) items I bought recently that I heart.

First, I travel for work. Not every week, but enough that it matters what I'm traveling with. Speed and comfort is key, and having a great carry-on can make or break my week. If for some reason I have to check my bag and wait at O'Hare for it to finally hit baggage claim, which usually takes around 45 minutes from landing, well, let's just say it can spoil my day. Or days. So I've been searching high and low for something function (read: small and with good pockets) AND me (read: cute and makes me smile, even when my flight is delayed). I also didn't want to break the bank on something that will only get banged up with every use.
So I started my search at the obvious retailers: Target and Amazon. I couldn't find anything but the blah at Target and Amazon was just a maze of options with ambiguous reviews. So I decided to take a look at ebags.com, and boy am I glad I did.

Meet my new travel-pal, the Diane Von Furstenberg 21" Runway Carry-on. It's light-weight and fabulously chic with its olive color fabric and bronze metallic trim and gold finished hardware. So me. And with ebags fab pricing, the ebates rebate I recieved, I scored this lovely little thing for around 60 big ones. The reviews are strong, so while I wish the pull handle felt a touch sturdier, I have high hopes for this new purchase.

I also have a new ebay score to brag about. I missed out on the Anthropologie Moulinette Soeurs Sabine Dress so naturally I was freaking thrilled when I stumbled upon it NWT on ebay. In my size! So I placed my bid, and waited patiently (or rather impatiently htting refresh about 1,356 times a minute) until the action closed and it was mine! So hooray for finding a new Anthro dress to pep up my wardrobe. I am looking forward to winterizing this one with tights and a cardi.

Anthropologie, you kill me!

I hate that Anthro took away their free shipping code and THEN waived some amazing fall new items and super-duper mark-downs right in front of my greedy little face. I tried to stay strong, but since the weather has been changing, I've been consistently annoyed with my wardrobe every morning, and just couldn't help but indulge in a little online shopping.
At first I had about 8 things in my bag, so the fact that I narrowed it down to 4 items, and two of them were mega-steals (30 measly bucks a $178 for a top that looks like it'll be a luxe little staple!!??).

So here's what's currently on its way to my apartment. Who knows. I've been having some bad luck with new clothes of recent (returned the mui muis because they HURT. BAD.), so maybe these wont end up being what I'm hoping for and I will have to make another trip to the store (why can't one be closer to my home??) and I'll have to force myself to exchange for something else...

Bah.

The posy top was totally not a 'need-to-have', but on sale for $19.95 so I pulled thetriger. It also looks super cute paired with the Aniseed skirt (a lovely CS had me try it on when both were in the stores). So I got it.

And I've been wanting to jump on the blazer bandwagon, and I've been eyeing the Frontrunner Blazer since it debuted as part of the fall collection. Gold specs. A bow embellishment. Ah. So me. So me.

And lastly, the Dwarf Quince Cardigan. Love it to pieces and I can tell a lot of others do as well based on posts across blogger-land, so I was simply scared it would sell out before it ever hit sales.

So there you have it. I'm weak and clicked buy. But boy, I can't wait until I get that package on my front steps!

I ordered and bought the new-ish Terrace House Jacket from Anthropologie. Didn't even hesitate to buy it on FP, because in my mind I was going to pair it with so many cute outfits with dark jeans. And my new designer back would complete the ever-so-chic ensemble I was imagining.

I couldn't wait for it to arrive. What a let-down this jacket is. And a good laugh. First off, its not super giving in fit, but most importantly from the side I distinctly resembled a giant empanada wearing jeans.

Back it will go.

Our trip to Italy was amazing.

Beautiful weather, amazing sites, delicious meals of pasta and tasty house wines... oh and some unforgettable shopping. We found (and purchased, cha-ching) my first year wedding anniversary (which is right around the corner since we opted for a delayed honeymoon), and I also picked up a couple of other amazing jewelery pieces and two great bags, including a 60s-style one-of-a-kind pocketbook, from a well-known artesian in wonderful, wonderful Firenze. The bag is, as I type, currently being custom-made for me in Florence, and shipped in early October.

How freaking amazing and decadant is that?

Through one of my many guidebooks I came across a Florence-based leather store, Cellerini, which has been around since the 50s, and are known for their impeccable quality, Hermes-style bags (but not Hermes-style prices), and their high level of customization. Upon finding the store, I worked with the lovely and debonair Allesandro (such a delightful man!), to select the style, leather, color, color of stitching (seriously?!?!), and length of strap. And voila, my purse goes into the creation stage. Needless to say, I can't wait for it to arrive, and will post pics asap.

In the meantime, wanted to post my other treasures I picked up along our Italian adventure. Obviously, I went the jewelry-route, but in addition to my Cellerini bag, also picked up an amazing Balanciaga dupe.

We're T-minus 48 hours until we depart for our Italian adventure, and I think (read: better have) found some shoes that work on both the comfy and cute factors. I while ago, I came to grips that I needed some functional shoes for the trip (though I plan to bring several pairs of my Chie's for the evenings). So sad. But finally, after hours of searching have decided on and ordered these Ecco sandals. Good lordy, they make me cringe a bit, but I know if I don't wear something practical (boo), I'll be paying for it dearly (or at least the hubs will with all my moaning and groaning.

Ecco=old lady, but I'm hoping these are old and wise, not old and shameful.

I like the bronze and pale gray patent colors, and hope they look tasteful in real life. In fact, the metallic pair are faintly reminiscent of some adorable Corso Como's I have that are fab... until I walk a few too many blocks... I guess, at the end of the day, it doesn't entirely matter, so long as blisters or achy feet don't put a damper on our big vacay :)

Nope, that wasn't a typo. While I'm publicly admitting that I l.o.v.e Jersey Shore (well except for Sammi the stinking-whiner), I'm not a believer of The Situation's gym-tan-laundry rules. Nope, it's just not for me. In fact, I'm pasty, more jelly-ish than I'd like, and hate to wash OR fold. That being said, I DO puffy heart ATL. ATL, that's Ann Taylor LOFT, and we've been calling in that way before Mike the Situation even thought about waxing his chest.

You can find some really versatile and cute wardrobe pieces at the LOFT. The fit isn't always the best, but the cost is super fair, so on more than one occasion I've bought something full-on intending to tailor the heck out of it. And it's been worth it. Totes. Italics or ON today, readers.

Spaghetti and Sequins

Happy Thursday, y'all!

Sorry I've been a neglectful blogger of late. Life has been... busy. Good busy. But nevertheless, busy. And some things have fallen to the wayside, like blogging. And ironing. Yea, I said (read: typed) ironing. In fact, as I was trying to find something to wear today, I literally felt shame when I realized just how wrinkly everything in my closet is right now. And on my walk to the train, I actually put a notice on my blackberry for Saturday morning, to IRON.

Yes, I am lame.

And OCD.

So this little busy-bee has been slowly checking off the to-do's to ready me and hubs for our upcoming trip (yippee!!). If I haven't talked about it enough already, here's the scoop: we're taking our delayed honeymoon and heading to sweet, gorgeous Italy. Ah, I can't freaking wait to drown myself in a bottle of wine AND a bowl of pasta. At that same time. Every night for the 2 weeks we're there. So, in the anticipation of what is easily the biggest daddy of a vacation we've ever taken, I've been collecting travel-sized toiletries, researching for the best most functional bags we can carry, AND of course stocking up on a new wardrobe... just for this one trip. And one of my favoritest, yes favoritest, purchases is this fab gold sequined scarf. I know for travel, comfort rules. Comfort and neutral ... so I thought this adorable, trendy scarf would be the perfect little accessory to take my daytime duds to something fun and suitable for an evening out of gnocchi and Chianti.

Sequins are all the rage right now, and I personally love the trend. I don't want to overdo it with the glitter, no way, but I have to admit, I now own 4 sequined items in my wardrobe - a cardi, a scarf (see above), a fab top from Tory Burch, and a funky little tank from JC... Please note, if more than one of these come with me to Italia, I swear an oath to all that I hold holy, that I wont wear more than one piece at a time.

Anyhow, back to where I was going. Besides overdoing it with the sparkles, you can also go wrong when playing with sequins. And for your reading pleasure, I've also identified some other unforgivable sequin "don'ts":

First, this hat. Other than a headband, ladies (and gents I guess) do NOT put sequins on thy head. Of note, this hat was being sold on a Disney website (I wont name it, so as not to incur the wrath of the mouse, but I just had to chuckle because I'm sure there are several people at the Magical Kingdom RIGHT NOW wearing this hideous fashion fug.

And then, I found this puppy. And guess what readers, this sweet thang is on sale! For just $524 you can own this designer gold sequin jumper. Holy cripes. Need I say more?

That's all I've got for now, though I could go on and on. Do any of you have the same affinity to sequins that I seem to have? Or do you think I need an intervention given my expanding sparkly wardrobe?

In my mind they are adorable and flattering; simple but just a touch above bourgeois; and therefore a must-pack for my upcoming trip to Italy. Online purchase reviews are solid PLUS I had a discount code (BR is insane with those of late), so now I just need them to be fantastic in real-life so I don't add another return to my pile/to-do list.

My yellow leather sandals are donzo. I get a lot of wear out of my yellow sandals because I love pairing yellow shoes with blues, greens, even reds. But they have gotten their use and are ready for retirement (read: a little beat-up from all of the good wears I got out of them). I've been on the prowl for something new to fill this horrid gap in my wardrobe (gasp! how can I live without some yellow shoes?!), and just haven't been blown away with anything I've seen. I've been waffling over the Kate Spade Bow Peep Toe flats for several months, and if they weren't peeps, they'd be in my closet now (I like peeps, just don't feel like I wear them AS much because of the Chicago weather realities).

So today I did a good scour of endless.com (ah, how I love endless), and came across two pairs I'm digging. Oddly enough, they two I'm deciding between are made by Pour La Victoire and Kelsi Dagger, which are sister companies. There is a decent price gap (about 90 bucks), and I love the style of the cheaper one (like the PVTs too!) but love the color as pictured of the Pour La Victoures. I could obviously order both, but then I worry I wont be able to make myself send one back. So... help me, readers. Which do you love more?

The interweb amazed me yet again this past weekend, when I cam across a 'vintage' but pristine new-with-tags Anthro cardigan by Moth that I loved, waited on, and didn't go to buy before it was too late.

The Motion Study Cardigan is great for Chicago weather with its short sleeves, but substantial weight. And I love love love the summery blue hydrangea color, mixed with the polkas and snail critter pattern. Here is how Anthro described it way back when: Slow embroidered snails sneak between polka-dots and buttonholes on the placket of this blueberry popcorn-knit sweater. How can you not love that little cardi?

Boredom and a need for some retail therapy led me to discover it in my size on ebay (yip!), and it's on its way already (love fast ebay shippers!) I will give a shout-out to the seller once it arrives and I can inspect the quality. For now, I'm just itching to see a package when I get home!

PS - and I love the model shot (sorry it's not a better one) and the combination with yellow shoes!

My husband and I are traveling to Italy in about a month (eek), and beyond a financial windfall, we also need some good city maps for our adventures. So late last week, I hopped on Tripadvisor.com to do some research, deciding on the Rough Guide Maps... great reviews, waterproof, awesome.

So I ordered one for Rome, Florence, Venice.

Perfect.

Or so I thought. I received a puzzling note about how two shipped, and I thought, hm wonder when the other will. Check it out.

I've been swamped at work, so apologies for the missing in action blogging. I haven't however been too swamped to not discover some new Tops and Tees I MUST have. Not from my usual go-to stores, but found some lovely new pieces for my wardrobe from Ann Taylor (and it was 20% off) and Tory Burch (weird, but super sale going on!!).

A wedding next week, what to wear??

I'm heading to New Hampshire next week for a wedding and a visit with the in-laws. Of course, traveling always comes with the big question... what should I pack?? It's been unbearably hot both here in Chicago and there in NH, so comfort is going to be a high priority, but since I get to spend time with so many people we don't normally see, I of course want to look cute and sassy.

The big event of the weekend is a wedding. I have the J Crew Lorelei Dress I bought last year, and have only worn twice. The dress is gorgeous, and quite flattering, though I'm always wishing it had straps. That being said, it's definitely a front runner. I'd pair it with my the Anthro Demi-Sec gold sequins cardigan made by Sanctuary and gold Corso Como strappy sandals.

So that's option 1. I truly think it's a lovely outfit, and next weekend would certainly be a good opportunity to get another wear out of the Lorelei dress. Yea? I give it an 8 out of 10.

Butttt, if I were to splurge on something new, it would hands down be the Anthropologie Mullany Dress. Oy, I'm smitten. I love the 50s styling, and the polka-patterns... and my mind goes wild imagining how I'd accessorize. I have these mint flats that I think would look lovely...

So, there is my dilemma. Thoughts? Do I save my pennies and wear the Lorelei or give the Mullany a try with those minty lovelies?

So I got hit by this cold bug harder than I initially thought, and therefore have been MIA for the past 4 days... so exactly how I wanted to spend the 4-day weekend. (Sarcasm, folks.)

Silver lining is that I'll hopefully be all better for my parent's visit to Chicago next weekend. Yay!

AND, while feeling sick and sorry for myself, I ordered a little treat. There is nothing like a little retail therapy. I've been needing, erm wanting, some cute red patent shoes to go with my Anthropologie Navy two-wheeler shirt dress (and maybe the white Beda, or is that two candy-striper??), so I starting combing through the online shoe retailers I heart so much. I came across these very Kate-Spade-ish mini-pumps that I decided to see in real life (love the free shipping/returns endless!!). Hip-yip, they arrived they very next day and while I've never worn this brand before, the Circa Joan & David Badge pumps are adorable and more comfy than their mighty-affordable price tag might suggest. Net net... being sick blows, but these shoes and their cherry red color and bow are cute enough to make me squeal.

Happy Tuesday, readers.

I hope you all are having the same GORGEOUS weather we're having here in Chicago! It's sunny and in the 70's... and get it is NOT sticky-nasty-humid. In fact it's amazing outside. What makes that even more fabulous is I'm going to the Cubs game tonight with coworkers and the Hubs - oh how I love baseball games when the weather is beautiful. Seriously, what beats sitting at a game and mashing your face into some nacho's in perfect 70-degree weather?

Nada, I say, nada.

The one hitch: in my race to get out of the house this AM I forgot a cardigan/wrap of any sorts. I spent too much time picking out a cute-but-baseball appropriate outfit (and one that doesn't clash hideously with my current bright-blue nail color), that I completely forgot any type of cardi. And while I l.o.v.e. this weather, I know I'll be quite chilly-willy as soon as the sun goes down.

So what's a girl to do... go to Anthropologie! I mean it's only block away from my office AND they just had a fresh cut of sales.

Don't fret dear Hubs (I know you're reading this), I was good and bought ONE cardigan AND it was on sale. Talk about practicing moderation. It wasn't easy, but I did it.

So tonight, I'll be pairing my circa '08 We Love Vera floral top (including it's crazy-lovely neckline) with the uber soft and cute Field Game cardi. Kind of a mental screw in patterns, but I quite enjoyed it in my quick fitting-room check...

Seriously, when did Aerosoles start making cute on-trend shoes? I wouldn't have been caught dead in a pair of their shoes back in my twenties, but let's face it, they were known for their orthopedic-looking clunkers! As I get older, though, I've started to put more stock in comfort when it comes to footwear (sad face), but it's a lovely thing when you stumble upon something that can fill both needs - comfort and STYLE.

Some other cute wedges I've been drooling over are these, these, and these.

I also tried on these shoes made by Sofft while in NC last week, and was in love love love. Seriously, people, they felt like slippers. And while they aren't the sexist-of-sexy shoes (I know, wont be mistaken for Loubies), they were darned lovely! The nude patent is right in my wheelhouse, and made my stumpy legs look longer than I thought possible. They didn't have my size in stock (took a 7 in these, usually waiver between a 7 and a 7.5), so they didn't come home with me to Chicago. That being said, there is a Nordstroms a few blocks from my office, and despite my current self-imposed shopping ban, I plan to hit it up next week. Hey, these are a smart INVESTMENT, therefore they should be exempt from my ban. Right?

I'm back - showing off my new goodies

I was traveling all week last week for work, so hard to blog. That being said, I *did* find time to do some shopping (whoops) and have some new purchases to show off.

First, I loved this cardi from first click when it showed up online, and in real life I just couldn't pass it up. I'm going to Italy with the Hubs in T-Minus 2.25 months (but who's counting??) and it will be perfect for my Roman/Venetian Adventures.

Next, I found the Green Beda Dress in my size, and given how much I adore the white one (and how many compliments I get each time I wear it) it came home with moi as well. Anthro, please make more of these in other colors! Maybe a good Polka Dot pattern?

And lastly, I found a pair of shoes are Nordy's I just couldn't get out of my head, so those also found their way into my crammed suitcase. What's up with this girl buying heels? I am a sworn-flats wearer, and in the past 3 months I've bought 4-5 new pairs of heels. Maybe I'm growing up? Finally. Either way, loved the blue patent and (faux) wooden heel. Nice heel height, and I'm rocking them at the office today and not regretting it.

All in all, trip was successful, from a number of regards. Hope everyone is having a glorious Monday!

But I've been up to my eyes in work and summer outings with friends... leaving me little time to pull together cutes outfits A(I'm doing it!, just not photoing them!) or time to blog. So my blog is suffering big time. To make up for it, Come this weekend, I'm going to announce the very first Spilling the Beans Giveaway. I'm a virgin sweeps holder!! Treasure hunting on Ebay

Ebay astounds me on a regular basis. And by astounds, I mean in both the good... and the not so good (or weird) way. I am an ebay veteran and have gotten some lovely little treasures and great finds, like bulk candles and paper lanterns for my wedding, a lightly loved (read: a little less than new) vintage designer bag I normally wouldn't be able to own, and brand new items from Anthro-past that I missed out on.

But to be fair, ebay is also a bit of a weird concept and there are also some of the strangest things being sold (and I guess bought)... like this. And this. WTF.

I found (and won!) a gorgeous Anthropologie Moulinette Soeurs brand new with tags dress on ebay this week. It's a knee length, watercolor plaid halter dress, with gorgeous hues of orange, purples and browns. Its a-line (my love!) with great shaping in the bodice and a comfy smocked panel in the back so it'll be sure to fit nicely. In true Anthro-style it's fully lined with 1.5-inch bright yellow embroidered lace trim. It's the little things that get me.

I remember this dress, and missed out on it way back when, so very squealy that I was able to get my grubby little hands on it now. Happy Monday to everyone! :-)

Oy, I've been waiting on the two-wheeler dress for months now. It's been on back-order since I ordered it a month ago, until (aha!) late last Friday when it changes to 'in process'. Still hasn't shipped out, and that is annoying. I'd love to have it in time for the weekend, but thinking that's looking unlikely. Seriously, how can it take so long to put one dress in one box? Well, I guess it's one dress and one belt. Still, I'm not sure if the belt should take 3 days to roll up and insert into said box? Tick tock, tick tock.

I hit up Target over the weekend and of course came home with two large bags full of things I didn't need... including this fab cardi that IMO looks, shall I even say, expensive (??). I love the colors, and the fit is comfortable and flattering (I was a Medium, Large was a little frumps). So go go go grab one, or order it online here. Oh, and if you like the print but aren't a cardi-gal, they had it in both a skirt and dress. All that print is a bit much for a full dress so a pass if you ask me. The skirt, however, gave me a sad face -- shape wasn't for my taste (material wasn't breathable, so I didn't want something so fitted), but could super cute for someone else!

Who's Keeping Tabs Anyway?

I don't think there are any new arrivals on Anthro this week (yet at least!), so I just apparently didn't notice this adorable printed T until today. Perhaps it's because it's color I don't usually gravitate towards?

I know, step away from the burnt orange, and try adding in some Green to your wardrobe.

Anyhow, even though it's not so 'me' I dig it a LOT. And so it might just have to be mine. If I get this and NOT the swan skirt (I still haven't found it in store, and can't decide if it looks like a toddler skirt), then in reality I am actually making money. Right? Yea, I think so!

A 10$ popback is also probably in my near future as well. Oddly enough, partially green as well.

I openly admit I have an addiction to graphic Ts. I own enough J Crew deco'd T's to sink a small ship. But all fairness, they are a good investment because I get as lot of wear out of them. They are often my weekend go-to, and because I can dress so casually at the office, sometimes I'll dress up a graphic T with a cute belt or chunky necklace to make them work-appropriate.

While online window-shopping last night, I came across the oh-so-cute and for-a-fab-cause Gap (PRODUCT) Red T-shirts, and added two to my growing collection. I LOVE the white V-neck with the dancer, but also wanted to see the Rhino T in real life (is it lime or puke green - that is the question).

Fingers crossed that these are soft and comfy, because with half the cost going to a global fund to fight AIDS, you can feel good in these shirts in more than one way.

With the J. Crew 20% discount expiring tonight, I have to decide on whether to be a good girl and save my money, or fall victim to their tempting offer. Right now, I have 4 items I'm considering:

First, this lovely scarf, that has me befuddled. The En Plein Air Scarf is desrcibed as an exquisite linen blend scarf covered in impressionist-inspired florals. I dig it. I thought it looked a little hippie-tie-dye at first glance, but I was into the colors. But what on earth about those lovely colors led JCrew to name it pale lilac? And secondly, there are really that many folks out there buying a 55$ Linen scarf that resulted in the delayed ship date? Hm, maybe it is worth it!

Next, I am considering this pair of espadrilles. They are a super cute combo of raffia and metallic, and hopefully a comfy summer shoe that's a bit more dressy than my standard Havaianas.

The Everyday Cardigans are way under-appreciated if you ask me. I've yet to see them on anyone else, but love the two I already own and wouldn't feel bad about adding the light pink "blossom" color to my wardrobe.

And last, I'm going out on a limb to try another burnt orange (excuse me, Moroccan Spice) tank. I love how the color and the ruffles of this tank in theory, but I also thought I'd love the Tissue Garland Tank, which ended up being a disaster on me. I'm hoping this tank will layer better than its predecessor, but we shall see.

Sadly, folks, the Aniseed dupe is not for me. First impression: it's a fantastic alternative to the ever-elusive and never-on-sale Aniseed skirt... but for those of us that are a bit on the pear-shaped side, it's just lovely in-theory (sad-face). Truth be told, given my shape and size, the darned thing was too short to be appropriate. I'm not surprised as I figured you probably need to size up on Modcloth (ala F21), plus the noted 19" hemline (eek)... Oh well, I gave it a shot!

So based on my bum, I'm going to send it back to ModCloth for a refund, unless someone who missed out because it sold out, let's me know they want it in the next day or two. It's a size large, and you can view it on ModCloth's site here.

Today's post is an extension to Sunday's ramblings...

As suspected, the Anthropologie sale is on, but more of a mini-sale than a lot of fellow bloggers hoped or expected. That being said, I was suckered in to order 2 random items that showed up on my wishlist as second cuts.

First, the Bluebells Awakening Cardi.

I don’t know why I’ve always been drawn to this sweater - probably the color combo of jet black and pastels - but at $39.95 ($158 originally) I just couldn’t pass it up. The online reviews are promising, and I think it would look fabulous with my J Crew symphony necklace and a grey pencil skirt or dark jeans.

The Circle Adornments top went 50% off, but weirdly, I decided to pass after a reality check on my wardrobe - I think I have enough light-pink flowy tops to sink a small ship.

So, beyond those, not much else on my wishlist went on sale today. Except for this random swimsuit I added a loooong ways back. Yea, totally random. I mean, I hate buying bathing suits, and certainly have never bought one from Anthro (holy hell why would I spend that much on an item of clothing I will never feel hot in?!?!), but an oldie one-piece with a fun red/white/navy print and a cute skirt that might make me feel a bit more covered went on super markdown... and I decided to give it a go.

The item name is On-The-Dot Maillot, but doesn’t seem to be an active posting any longer... so apologies for the teensy picture. They have several sizes available (according to my wishlist) and it’s a steal at 30 freaking bucks (especially as opposed to the original $268 price tag – wtf?). Style number is 953665, in case you are interested in picking one up for yourself.

Bottom line: including tax, I got in and out of the sale for under 85 bucks… I’m actually kind of impressed by myself.

I know its foolish and wholly unproductive, but some Sundays I sit around and pout about the weekend being over. Today was such. I thought about perking myself up with some good old-fashioned retail therapy, but held off ONLY because of my anticipation of this week's Anthropologie Sale... so, in lieu of some shopping, I updated my Anthro wishlist, prepping for Tuesday's big sale. Of course the two items I covet most wont likely hit the sale racks quite yet, but a girl can daydream...

Bountiful Birds Blouse is a great top because it's fun and neutral at the same time.

And while I'm a little put off by the neckline that resembles Charmin TP, I love love love the watercolor print of the Wild Imagination Tank.

And alas, the one top that I might have a shot of seeing hit the sale, appears to be nearly sold out online... crikey! Perhaps I should just bite the bullet and buy the Circle Adornments Top now... Oh, what to do.

Happy Friday everyone. Oh wait, not everyone has tomorrow off. Ha, sorry to those of you who have one more day before the sweet sweet weekend.

I have yet to order anything from ModCloth, but have to admit I've been quite tempted lately, given their excellent knock-offs. First, off the Cricket Match Skirt:

Holy MOLY, when I saw this skirt I about screamed because I've been wanting the Anthropologie Aniseed skirt SO bad but haven't pulled the trigger as of yet (shouldn't that darn thing go on sale soon??). I'm worried about the fit of the ModCloth impostor... actually, more about the length... I can't do short/mini. Oh, conundrum.

Which brings me to the next ModCloth clone, the Ivory Symphony Skirt, which looks strikingly like the J Crew Tiered Brique Skirt, but... LONGER! I likely. The Tiered Brique skirt is way cute for both evenings out and work, but not long enough IMO...

I know I need another pair of shoes like a hole in my head, BUT I love Bettye Muller shoes, and don't actually have any blue patent flats in my life... so.... I'm going to think about it, and perhaps pull the trigger if the my size is still available in a few hours.

The price is certainly right (read: mega sale!), and I've been inspired be one of my favorite bloggers, Goldenmeans, pull together some amazing outfits with a royal blue pair of heels. Like here and here. So adorable, right??

One major danger of the blogosphere is the extra spending it causes -- buying things you simply don’t need, but rather just because you saw it on another blog. Seriously, this is how it will go: I’ll be catching up on my fashion blogs, see how adorable Ms. Bloggy looks in her outfit of the day, and literally have a physical reaction and need to have her shirt/skirt/shoes. Sometimes I’ll be satisfied with just a little virtual window shopping, others, the itch just wont go away. I think this pesky situation might be called ‘addiction’, but who’s wanting to get all scientific?

So this routine of jonesing happened recently when I saw a review of this bicycle-covered dress from Anthropologie and it reminded me of that oldie-but-goodie Moth cardigan they had a few years back. And I realized… crap, I want it. Bad. It’s SO Emma Pillsbury: dainty, minty, yay!

So I started my search. Sadly, instead of lucking out with finding one up for a super fab sale, I of course I saw this cutey blogger rocking the cardi with a skirt I already own, and it made me crazy to have it even more. And of course, the two-wheeler cardigan is impossible to find.

So I started looking for a substitute - something else to get this monkey off my back. Cha-ching, I’m hoping I’ve struck gold (but you never know with F21)! Perfectly similar, but even slightly better (shoes, little ladies traveling, thaz me!) I stumbled upon these fab cardi’s, which in the end are distinctly a way better option (read:cheaper) than anything I would have found at Anthro. And now both are now on their way to my office (sorry mailroom guys, but don’t want to risk someone stealing them from my front stoop).

How can you beat this one for 14 stinking bucks.

And naturally, I bought a back-up to my back-up.
It has ruffles, TOO. How am I not sick of ruffles? I'm not.

Oh, and because I saw this top, and I have zero self-restraint, I got it, too. It’s minty, bedazzled, looks super comfy for summer, and got my to the free-shipping level with F21. Now here’s crossing my fingers that it isn’t too booby-ish.

Happy Monday!

I'm back from a lovely but as always, much-to-short visit to Cincinnati which used to be 'home' and still holds many fond memories and favorites. One of which is Skyline Chili, which I will forever indulge in on visits to the Queen City ;)

UPDATE - the items arrived, and sadly the jacket was horrible! As in already returned, back to AT in a day, horrible. The fit was impeccable, no gaping at the chest, even when buttoned, but that was the only pro. The color was a bland beige, not at all the subtle pinky nude I'd expected. The ribbons were droopy and pathetic looking, not like the picture... and the material was meant to be super duper wrinkly. I know I shouldn't have been shocked by that, given the name (Crinkle Jacket), but in the picture it doesn't look wrinkled, just kind of a nice fabric with a subtle texture. Even the other jackets I saw in store when I made the return looked terrible - the wrinkly thing would have driven me insane ... why would I wear this chic jacket, that I look like I slept in? Oh well, better for my wallet anyhow :)

So as I mentioned in my previous post, I did a teensy bit of shopping at Ann Taylor this week. I just couldn't resist the 30% discount - that's too much temptation for one weak girl. That being said, I think I truly practiced restraint by what I ended up ordering. To be clear, I loaded my cart up with about dozen tops and necklaces, then realized I don't need 3 more tops that are all in the shade of Dusty Rose... so out they went. And in fact, my jewelry box is always bursting with things I forget all too often to wear, so I held myself to only the one necklace (which again, was a giant steal. It's like I saved money by buying that necklace).

So what else did I allow myself to click "submit" on... well, after quite a long time of browsing, I happened upon this jacket which I never noticed and immediately loved. Well not immediately. Check out the back of it. Wowzah!! Ahhh, I can't even take it - so darling! And the bracelet-length sleeves will be perfect for my shorty arms and the warmer temps that will be coming to Chicago, hopefully, sometime soon. Plus it was ONLY available in my size at the time, so, really, it was destiny.

And here's a picture of the front... which is darned cute as well with the peter pan collar and all.

Ok, taking deep breathes, waiting patiently for my adorable jacket.

Lastly, I picked up this slightly-over-priced-but-not-at-30-percent-off tank because it's fun and girly, but neutral in color... so a good add to my wardrobe. I'm a thinker.

What's even better is the shipping was free for my whole order and I have already received the "your items have shipped" notice. Hellz to the yes. Ok, enough writing like this. I don't even know where it is coming from because heck, I'm a girl who wears J Crew and Ann Taylor. And says heck.

I loved the J Crew Libretto necklace when it came out, but was on the fence because of the ribbon-tie clasp... would it get grody from hair oils (ew, I know) or my neck... 'dew', when it gets warm here in Chicago? Ew again... I know! But a real possibility, and the JC costume gems don't come cheap! So I passed on it. But I loved it.

And then today, while perusing the Ann Taylor site, I came across this lovely trinket! And I know it's only one strand, but I adore, and think it will look lovely layered with some of my other baubles. Oh AND it's 30% (hells yea!) off until Sunday if you use the Friends & Family code (FRIENDS) making it quite a steal versus the Libretto. All it's missing IMO is a fun and fanciful name... take note Ann Taylor, a little marketing goes a long way with a retail-aholic gal like moi.

Now, let's just hope it lives up to my expectations.

I'm addicted to J Crew T-Shirts

I popped into the Michigan Avenue J Crew last night and couldn't resist a couple of their T's. It's like I have a disorder. A JC T-shirt obsession. The one point of redemption on last night's spree is that the two I bought were on super-sale, marked down from $42.50 to $14.99 and $19.99. That's a sweet bargain for tops that I'm sure to wear quite often.

The two I came home with aren't currently online (or that I can find), so posting some irl OOTD day pics in case you're interested in picking either up. the photo quality is awful so apologies, but using my BB camera to be speedy about getting these up and out there for you!

The one I wore today has a cute tulle and cotton rosette design along the neckline, accented by one antique-ish gem/crystal bead. It's a nice weight (meaning not see-through like some JCTs)and at $14.99 a total steal if you ask me. The only draw-back is this will have to be hand-washed, but I'll wear cami's to extend the number of times I can wear it before cleaning. I know. I'm grubby. Lazy and grubby.

I paired this T with my beloved short-sleeved cashmere cardi in Dusty Shale and jeans. I piled on some faux pearls and my new Alexis Bittar bangle, and popped on my gold ruffle flats.

Tonight will be a first for me: a Gilt Groupe event. Yes, indeed, I'm attending the book launch of "Classy" by Derek Blasberg which is being hosted by Gilt (hm, I guess I 'get' it) and Nate Berkus (ok, love him, but the combo is kind of strange).

I'm going to said event because 1. I'm curious and have yet to hear of, much less attend, a Gilt event... and 2. I'm not one to turn down some free cocktails (and hopefully a signed copy of this adorable book!). Of course, since it's hosted by Gilt and at the W, I tried to dress cute but was thwarted by the odd weather/my pale legs and a day's work/an-outfit-that-is-now-a-wrinkled-mess. Crapsters. Oh well, can anyone expect to look super put-together on a Wednesday evening?

Maybe I'll just keep my coat on.

Blair Waldorf made me drool

I watch Gossip Girl for two reason: 1. the fashion 2. Ed Westwick.

Yes, I admit, a part of me actually wants to be Blair Waldorf. Not, cheesy Leighton Meester, but B. And really, what I want is her wardrobe. And maybe a loyal maid that bails you out when you're in a fix.

And yes, I also have a major crush on Chuck. Purple ties, smarmy voice and all. I think he's dreamy.

In last night's Gossip Girl, I practically began drooling during the shopping scene. B's ensemble was hands down the best I've ever seen on the show. She rocked a fierce black and gold patterned Marc Jacobs puff-sleeved dress, paired with a cherry-red Chanel and net tights (Wolford, of course, which I'd never drop the $$, but DO look amazing).

The real show-stopper though, was the grape-colored Moschino Ruffled coat that literally made me ache with envy. If I owned that coat, I'd wear it every day. Every darned day, until the day I died. And then my hubs had better bury me in it. Is there a more perfect coat in existence? I think not.

The coat is so amazing, it even makes up for the model's terrible 'do.

I would love to add this long and luscious pretty to my collection, but my jewelry case is already over-flowing with pearls galore. So, shockingly, I am showing some restraint... Holy craziness?? This is a day to remember!!.

Yes, folks, I admit it: I cheated. But I had to. I fell for the beautiful words, the romanticism of the french. I hope someday I'll be worthy of forgiveness... but for now, I'll just have to find some way to soldier on.

See, I cheated on Anthropologie. I love Anthro, I really do, but seriously, how can a shower curtain or cookie jar cost so much? Who buys said shower curtains or cookie jars? Or who pops online and says "yes I need this 70 DOLLAR BUTTER DISH. I mean seriously, who? I want to know you. I want to watch you, examine your life, understand what it's like to be you.

I'll tell you what kind of person I am... I'm the kind of person that falls head over heels for a $400 set of bedroom curtains. Yea, I am. I'm the kind of girl who can literally visualize how her updated bedroom will look with said curtains, starts scavenging for complimentary accessories, and daydreams about how freakishly soothed and at peace she'll feel in this new perfectly-curtained bedroom. Yea, I am. But I am not the kind of person that buys zillion dollar curtains. I'm the kind of person who pouts for a moment, then scours for something so close no one else would know the difference. I'm the kind of gal who scores them for less than half the price and custom made for her bedroom! Yea, I may be a cheater, but I'm proud of it. Meet my lover, ahem, curtains:

JC: the good and the bad

Happy Wednesday all!

So my latest J Crew order arrived yesterday and I was pleasantly surprised by the Chiffon Stripe Tier Tank - lovely color, not gaudy or clownish as I'd worried and the quality seems nice (though it definitely should be, given the cost). I'm keeping it, and think it will pair lovely with some navy's and blossom's.

That being said I was very disappointed by the Cropped Ruffle Cardigan and not for the reason I would have expected. The length was fine for me as it hit on my high hip (although I'm definitely on the short side being 5'4"), but the fabric was terrible in both quality and color. I ordered the cardi in light lilac and the picture is of this lovely, soft, dusty purple color... in real life, it was darker and more grape-y than the lavender I'd hoped for (I know I'm making up words). The color was 'off' from the online photo in my opinion, but not ugly. The deal breaker was the fabric used for this cardi - it was a flimsy, low-quality t-shirt material that looked like a wrinkled mess out of the box. I don't want to iron any more often than I need to, and a ruffle should look fun and adorable, not droopy and sad. Net net, this one is definitely going back.

We're scheduled for some warm temps tomorrow, so I might try and put together an outfit with the Chiffon Tier Tank - I promise to post a pic, no matter how amateur it might be.

Etsy Rocks My World

Seriously, Etsy is one of those inventive gadgets that I ask myself "what did I do before...?" a LOT. And it's funny, because a lot of people haven't even heard of this wondrous site, much less taken advantage of all of the lovely, charming, and creative goodies you can score on it.

Now me... I've made etsy my b!tch (read: freaking love etsy). As a recent bride, etsy was a savior - I found my invitations, vintage hair clip I plan to heirloom, and an adorable custom sign we used to direct guests to the ceremony site. For Christmas this year, the hubs gave me a sweet necklace and a handmade jewelry case, both of which I of course picked out (he definitely falls in the group of etsy non-users). And just today I found and bought the most amazing house decor that I can't wait to show off. It closely resembles something I'd been drooling over from Anthropologie, but was out of my price range (shocking, right? I mean, Anthro homegoods aren't in everyone's budget?? Who doesn't own a $90 shower curtain??). Anyhow, I'm saving the details of my latest fab find for another post.

In the meantime, as promised, I wanted to share some amazing bib statement necklaces that are sitting prettily on etsy, waiting for someone to pick them and click them.

Next up, is a stunner with vintage bronze and silver-toned beading. This one will make you stand out for sure, but teeters on the (right) side of gaudy with the neutral colors. Can't beat the price either!

Next up is an up-cycled statement made of vintage brooches by a new-to-etsy seller. A little pricier, but would look amazing with a LBD.

The next one is a work of art. I puffy heart this exquisite bib in a major way, but can in no way justify the pricetag. Maybe someone out there has a birthday coming up? This would make any old outfit birthday-ready. The rosettes, the asymmetry... Feels classic and trendy at the same time.

One last beaded collar to share that has me swooning. This one practically knocks me over both with it's beauty (the quality looks impeccable!) and unfortunately the price. Don't you think it's very much ala Olivia Palermo...

I found several other gorgeous pieces during my etsy browse, a couple of which are now on my wishlist. Maybe a summer splurge for me soon... but how do I decide which one to take home?

Love her or hate her, The City socialite and star Olivia Palermo is launching a jewelry line with Roberta Freymann. While I personally don't care for her as a person (in fact, I'd say she sucks at life), I do indeed admire her style AND think these stunning statement necklaces blow both Whitney's and LC's duds of a clothing line out of the water.

The collection will be called the Roberta Freymann by Olivia Palermo Collection. WWD reports that the inspiration for the collection of statement necklaces is Olivia's favorite cities (note, not just THE City). The collection just launched this spring at Roberta Freymann boutiques and you can view/buy a few pieces online. Prices for the pieces will range from $175 to $300, and I'm personally lusting after the one on the golden/mustard gross-grain ribbon.

Has anyone seen any other pieces from the collection? A quick Google search hasn't turned up other online retailers, but if you live in the NYC-area, you can check them out in person... I'd love to see more.

Today there are some adorable light-weight coats/trenches that are under $100. Brand is called lo la, which I'm not familiar with, but the cuts are cute and stylish! Pick this ruffled lovely for less than 80 bucks!

There are so many adorable spring dresses in stores and online making me drool. But since coats are still a must-have here in Chicago and my legs are still a scary winter white hue, I just can't get excited to try on much less bring home any. So to live vicariously, here's a little outfit I've put together from one of my favorites designers, Kate Spade. Now let's turn up the sunshine!

I love the cut and the girly pink and coral stripes, and of course the lovely bow sash that would accentuate the waist. Buy it here.

I'd pair this lovely classic dress with these two gold-toned baubles.

I love the simplicity of the knots, and think they pair well with the charm and whimsy of the bracelet.

I'd complete the outfit with these adorable bright yellow patent peeps. Again, a bow, so maybe it's a little over the top or too matchy-matchy for some, but I think I'm smitten :)

Boo for tomorrow being Monday, but at least the forecast is for some warmer temps!

I'm getting super excited as our Italian vacation starts to near - we're T-minus 6 months, making it start to feel real. Recently, I've started mapping out our travels, we've booked hotels in both Venice and Florence, and have starting to of course think about what I'd pack. Seriously, isn't that sort of the best part of vacations? Plotting out all the cute outfits you're going to rock, AND some of the extra splurges because you definitely need them for your trip?

On that last note, I know I need to pare down my accessories to be a. easily transportable b. versatile and c. safe for travel. I know I wont be able to bring my beautiful engagement ring or the gold watch I wear every day without making ourselves a target for pickpocketing, so I've wisely invested in a more tame but equally as adorable watch for my trip. What I love even more, is it gave me an excuse to add a Philip Stein to my accessory collection. I think everyone could benefit from the brand's patented integrated frequency technology, which supposedly helps balance the body's energy flow and promote an improved sense of well-being. Hell yea, I need that. And honestly, I think it should be covered by insurance.

So while it's not covered even by Barack's new health bill, I've done a superb job in locating a Stein watch on a fab deal by scouring the interwebs (tooting my own horn while also comforting the hubs...). I love the neutral and durable silicon strap, and am equally as excited about the rose gold face - I feel like it's a good compliment to the two lovely watches I already own, seeing as they are yellow gold and a stainless steel.

See how I adeptly rationalize this unnecessary but wise purchase?

I know I need to get my new-found love in peaches and lilacs in check before it turns into a full-blown obsession. BUT, before I do, can I post yet another couple of JCrew items that just appeared on their web that are calling to me:

First, the Chiffon Stripe Tier Tank, which I really like in the Light Ginger color. I really like that color, and if the shirt is being accurately pictured on the site, then I am truly crushing on the texture of this shirt. But then there is a part of me that worries that I'm being clouded by peach-lust... is this shirt really puke-meets-clown, and I can't see it?

Next up is the charming Cropped Ruffle Cardigan in Sheer lilac... how feminine and lovely can a cardi get??!! This one is going to be mine, assuming the cropped aspect isn't totally unflattering. I'll keep you posted.

Next up, I need to think about 'bottoms' for all of my delicate new tops. I wont rock white pants, am even quite reticent on khakis because I feel like they show ever crease, line and dimple... what are my other options? I'm considering the
Cotton Nico skirt in sandlewood, but I've not seen one single review on the many blogs I read. Has anyone tried these skirts on? Love it or hate it? I am a lover of a-lines, so I might need to give it a try.

Carbs and Black Eyed Peas = Prozac

It’s 5PM on Thursday, so officially (close enough) TGIF. This week hasn’t been bad, just super stinking sick of this cold Chicago weather, and busy as all at work, so I’m ready for the weekend. Who am I kidding; I’m always ready for the weekend.

Anyhow, back to today’s post… I work in the ad industry, so part of my job is to read magazines (I swear) and I came across an article in the April issue of Self that I actually cut out and now have tacked up near my desk. It’s all about food that is good for you. An no, I don’t just mean low-cal/fat/carb/taste, I mean it’s good for Y-O-U. Now I’m a sucker for all of this homeopathy mumbo-jumbo and I’ve jumped on quite a few supplement bandwagons. So yea, I ate (hardy-har) this info up!! There are actually 50 edibles that Self so kindly lists and details how they will help improve your mood, health, and even hair. Here are a few new tiddy-bits that I personally thought were surprising and helpful:

Pumpkin seeds. I love these suckers. But did you know they could also help headaches? According to the Headache Center in NYC (uhm, I think I might need to go there), 50% of headache sufferers are magnesium deficient. If you crunch on just 2 oz of toasted pumpkin seeds, you’ll hit your daily magnesium goal. Hells-to-the-yes! I have headaches so often my husband actually rations my Advil intake.

Coffee. I mean, do I need another reason to rationalize my intake? Yes I do. Ok, maybe notnot, but I’ve got one: Caffeine consumers make half as many errors in their day-to-day life compared to decaf fans. Take that you healthy freaks! Caffeine was also linked to lower risk for depression. Now if only I could manage to get in and out of a Starbucks without spending 8 bucks.

PMSing? Well apparently you should chug on some skim milk. Adequate amounts of calcium and D have been shown to be as effective at improving mood as hormones used to treat PMS.

And here are a few others… Almonds and Cherries can both help with relief of sore muscles. Oysters can help with dull hair. Shiny hair PLUS in da mood… wow, why don’t men take us to raw bars more often? And melon and bell peppers can help block the effects of UV light and combat wrinkles.

Anyhow, thought these were mighty interesting… and figured instead of just showing you the purse/blouse/chunky necklace I’m currently waffling over, I’d share some *other* useful info. Ta-daaaa.

I'm waffling on this necklace currently for sale on the sample sale site, Hautelook. The designer is tuleste market,it's reasonably priced, and gold-plated meaning it wont turn gray. However, it is borderline (??) huge. Is it too big?

Though the trend has been out there for some time, I still love bows, ruffles, and unique/multi textiles. And any one thing that manages to pull these off in a combo is squeal-inducing.

While reading this month's InStyle magazine, I came across an oh-so-adorable grosgrain bag that is just so me, I had to do a little more searching online about the designer and the bag. The designer Anya Hindmarch, is HQ'ed in London, but has a speckling of stores in the US (unfortunately for me, none in Chicago). The website is fantastic with easy usability and great photos of the items, including scale images.

The particular purse I am coveting, is a beige colored Grosgrain shoulder bag with a tan leather and gold-toned hardwear strap. I can't seem to find that particular color online (boo), but found an almost-equally cute bright purple version of it. The bag style is Gracie, and the size looks perfect for both day-shopping and evenings-out. The bag aesthetic is timeless and classic but with the sophisticated pleating and lovely strap design, it doesn't bore you to tears.

For the price, I'd opt for the neutral beigey-taupe color, but again, I haven't been able to find it beyond the pages of InStyle. I'm also not familiar with this designer and their quality or durability, and let's face it, we're all a little tough on our purses from time to time, so would love anyone's reactions who may have been to a store or own one of their purses.

Another cute Hindmarch purse is this Grosgrain Corsage bag. I'm always a fan of the X-body style, and the color is divine.

I'm sure tons of people received this email for "exclusive" access to a new JCrew Martha necklace, but I wonder how many people will actually buy this pricey trinket. Don't get me wrong, I think the necklace is super cute and vintagey, but I have no idea when/where I'd wear such a glittery bauble.

I've recieved similar email offers from JCrew, but never been tempted enough to pull the trigger - has anybody ever taken advantage of these early previews?

Many of my favorite bloggers have weekly features like "Wednesday's Wishlist", "Thursday Thrills", or "Titillating Tuesday" (well maybe I haven't seen that last one, but it could work), and really all it means is here are some amazing (beauty is in the eye) things that person covets, needs, WANTS.

Anyone who knows me would attest that I have a constantly growing wishlist, and perhaps, instead of buying everything on said wishlist, if I blogged about the items, I would satiate my hunger for 75 peach colored shirts without shelling out hideous amounts of cash. Problem is, 1. I don't have a catchy tag-line, and 2. I am not blogging consistently yet... so I can't promise it will happen weekly, but here is my go at my inaugural insert-catch-phrase shopping list. And just bring this post full circle, enjoy the parade of peach tops that I think are quite fab:

If I didn't already own a few lace pieces, I would easily find some hanger space in my closet for this little gal. Peach lace, exposed back zipper. Cute!

And while this is NOT a top, it is peach, and uber cute. I don't often even try F21 bottoms because their hemlines are too short for my taste (and age), but if you can rock it...

And LOFT, or ATL as I like to call you because you're still part of Ann Taylor in my mind... you also have some lovely peach tops that my mouse keeps lingering over.

Split Neck Shell with Floral Collar is totally adorable, but how does it fit?

The Pleated Square Neck Top. I love you delicate pleats! ATL is calling the peachy color Vanilla - definitely looks more like a blush or peach hue to me.

Ok, and while this is NOT peach, I wanted to share another WTF, someone's lost their mind item... seriously, 700 bucks for a sleeveless top? Jcrew, I love you, I spend way too much money on your cardi's, T's and jewelery, but seriously, this is absurd. Even the model can't hide her "this-stinks" expression. Meet the Deco Scallop Shell. Undoubtedly someone will see the value of this top, just not me.

I'm a shrimp blogger, WTF??

I'm wasting time before dinner with friends, which is the only reason this next post exists. Because if I were really watching TV, I wouldn't be watching commercials... ah, I love DVR. However, I've got 30 minutes before I need to head out and I just happened to see a commercial that is so absurd, so hilarious, so annoying, so SOMETHING, that I had to post a short rant.

Taco Bell is airing a commercial that begins with an Englishman who says "I'm a Shrimp Blogger". And he says this as if it is a normal title and we should not be mind-boggled. Then he explains briefly some of his shrimp-blogging exploits. Then he tells us how he heard about the new Taco Bell shrimp taco and he wants one. Then the commercial ends with this Gent saying "I can't decide if I'm going blog about it or keep it for myself", or something to that effect. Ahhhhhhhh. That doesn't even make sense to me. I mean, can't he just eat the taco and then blog about it. Oh the conundrums of said Shrimp Blogger.

I'm pretty sure this is one of the worst ads I've seen in a while. I'm also pretty sure that if they existed, I'd hate elitest Shrimp Blogging yuppies. Lastly, I guess T-Bell better hope Shrimp Bloggers exist, because who else would be crazy enough to order shrimp from Taco Bell?

Dear Anthropologie,
You know I love you immensely, but WTF is this?
And to each their own, but seriously 5-stars from more than one reviewer?

On the other hand, I'm so annoyed that so many other people like this same JCrew sweater in the lovely dusty shale color, thus making it literally impossible to find. I've even tried a "we find it", with zero luck. If anyone sees it in a size medium, please put it on hold for me! I must have this little lovely.

UPDATE!!! I just checked Jcrew.com and the shale sweater was there, in a medium! Eeks! Why am I so excited for an over-priced sweater? I don't know, but I sure am...!! Seriously, they just declined my 'find it for me' yesterday... and now it's right there. Online. Watch me get an email saying it was all a prank on poor old me.

Lastly, I will defend my Ohio roots always, but seriously, they are making it hard... Being a marketer myself, I'm torn between shaking my head and applauding the ingenuity.
